The sound of waves crashing against the rocks of the cliffs to either side of the serene beach was disturbed by a slight Thud.... Thud.... Thud.... The sound of a dragons' wings beating the air. And, as one could guess, so it was a dragon decended onto the sand, her silver scales bright as stars. Upon the dragons' back sat a girl of about seventeen. She looked for all the world like an elf-maid, but such was only partly true. The girl, Keahi by name, was only half elf. Actually, by birth she was a girl with hair a deep jet black, her eyes a blue a shade so dark they seemed almost black. But, as do all elves, Keahi had changed her appearance with magic so she looked exactly as she wanted. With waist-length, saddle-brown hair and eyes a light color of grey that, in the right lighting, had just a fraction of blue in them.
When her dragon was still a full five feet from the ground, the rider jumped from Sílvrea's back, laughing as she did so. What a day! She had finally mastered the Rimgar, beaten a full elf in swordsmanship, and she had leaned at least fifty new words of the Ancient Language. And still, her teacher insisted that she had at least another year of training.
Of coarse, Eragon was no longer her teacher. He had been for the first year of her training, but once she had learned all he knew about being a Rider, she passed to experts of other things and Eragon had released her from her training as a Rider. Now she learned other things, each from a different teacher.
Keahi landed easily as a cat might; her elven heritage had provided her with the usual elf capabilities. Sílvrea landed beside her, speaking through her link with Keahi as the rider removed the dragon's saddle. Ah, the beach. The last time we came here was.... what, a year ago? A year and a half? Back them some of the fish were as big as my head... Now they're hardly a snack. This time I'm having shark! And with that, the dragon moved over to the shallows (to her anyway, it was really a full ten feet of water) and ducked her head beneath the surface, looking for a shark to gobble as an afternoon snack.
Keahi laughed at the dragon's statement, it seemed quite funny to her. She opened one of the bags tied to the saddle and removed a blanket, a book, and a fairth that she had yet to place a picture on. Keahi uttered the words to place the picture and watched it form: A huge silver dragon standing in ten feet of sea water at beach with her head beneath the surface on a clear summer's day. To the Rider, this was the best fairth she had ever made. With a smile, Keahi set out the blanket and picked up her book, sat down and began to read.

Thud...
A white, triangular ear twitched. The beach-sleeper began to stir.
Thud...
What the heck was making that awful racket?! Maubynt was trying to sleep! Stupid, inconsiderate...
THUD!
The final beat of a dragon's wings was much closer than the last few she'd heard. The werecat's head shot up, her silver eyes narrowed to mere slits as she focused on the distance. As she had suspected, the sound's producer was a mighty, silver dragon. Not the largest dragon that Maubynt had ever seen, but a great creature nonetheless. Hissing softly to herself, the white feline-like creature got to her paws, her thickly-furred tail swishing lightly over the sand. She took a moment to shake the grit from her fur, then looked straight ahead. At first, she thought it might be a wild dragon, but upon listening more closely, she could make out the laughter of another. A Rider! Most interesting.
Maubynt didn't mind Riders. They weren't so bad. Maybe a meeting was in store...
Grinning like a Cheshire(?) Cat, Mau ran silently along the beach. In the opposite direction. Swiftly, she began to dig into an odd lump of sand, and when she was through, she unveild a pair of pants and a white blouse... not to mention a dagger. Licking her maw, she needed only to think it before she was a humanoid being. She donned the clothing, then began to walk (barefoot, of course) down the beach. Now she moved toward the dragon... or rather, its Rider. The dragon was in the water, its head buried beneath the waves in search of, most likely, some sort of meal.
Maubynt's face was still curved into a grin that revealed sharp, cat-like teeth... and yet, at the same time, not-so-cat-like. It was quite haunting, actually, as her smile made her look more like some demon than anything. The werecat approached nonchalantly, her dagger going into the air then landing in her hand again with utter finesse as she moved forward. Then, growing bored with the dagger-tossing routine, she placed it into its sheath at her waist. "Why, hello there, peace-disturbers!" called the werecat when she was still several yards away from the half-elf. Maubynt's grin remained unchanging, her eyes blinking owlishly as she watched the other two.
OOC| I rather wish she had something she could swing and twirl around, rather than a dagger. XD Like a yoyo, or something...

//OOC| Lol. Have her make one or something. XD \\
Surprised, Keahi looked up from her book. There stood a strange woman, with hair that was such a bright shade of blond that it could have been white. Her eyes were a brighter color than her own, silver rather than grey. She wore a white blouse that had nearly the same color as her hair, giver her the odd appearance of wearing her own hair as a shirt. At her waist was a dagger, sheathed in blue leather. But what was most eye-catching about the woman was her teeth. They were sharp and inhuman. They seemed the teeth of a demon, but not quite a Shade. Shade's teeth were fare more pointed than hers. "Hello. My name is Keahi. Who might you be?"
The Rider knew little of werecats, having only seen pictures and heard descriptions, but she was sure this was one. Not many women carried daggers here on the only place of perfect peace, where there was no such thing as an enemy. Keahi, of coarse, always kept Arget with her, however. "You're a werecat, aren't you? Eragon told me they always have pointed teeth in human form."

OOC| Yeah! Then all she'd need is some bubble-gum... hmmm, I think I just might have her make Alagaesia's first-ever yoyo. Oh dear, just realized I forgot to describe the length of her hair. I'm very unused to describing humanoids. x.x IC|"Hello. My name is Keahi. Who might you be?" Such was the Rider's inquiry as the werecat approached. Maubynt didn't reply right away. She seemed to expect that more would be added -- Riders were good like that: "You're a werecat, aren't you? Eragon told me they always have pointed teeth in human form."That haunting grin go bigger, if that was even possible. Her silver eyes shimmered. "Keahi," the woman said evenly, seemingly testing the name, "I am Mau." The name rolled quickly off of the woman-werecat's tongue easily. Her grin disappeared as she stopped moving and her head tilted ever-so-slightly to one side, her platinum hair (which nearly always looked at least a little unkempt) falling into her face. She didn't bother moving it, just stared through the strands in an unblinking, feline sort of way. "How intelligent," answered the werecat with a tone that was not mocking, but wasn't truly praising the Rider, either. "Eragon? Hmmm, most interesting," said the werecat as she moved her head upright again, so that her entire face might be seen again. Now the werecat, Mau, moved forward again, towards the Rider. "And your dragon?" she inquired. She would've asked the dragon herself, but for the fact that the creature's head was submerged in ten feet of saltwater.

//OOC| lol. I only just started with non-wolf characters a year ago (although that one sucked) and properly over the last summer summer. XD \\
"She is Sílvrea." Keahi watched the werecat's approach with an interested expression. She had always wanted to meet one, but they were a rare species and didn't often show themselves for what they were. There had always been one lurking around her home, Ellesméra, but Keahi had never seen her. On the contrary, she was far more friendly with the she-wolf there. "It is an honor to meet you, Mau."
Sílvrea finally pulled her head from the water, a struggling hammerhead in her jaws. The dragon dropped it on the beach as Keahi killed it with magic, better to die quickly than to die in flames. Sílvrea proceeded to cook the meat before ripping a chunk off, speaking directly to the werecat as she did so. I, too am honored to meet you, Mau.
Keahi maintained her gaze, intrigued by the werecat's presence. "Do you know Eragon?"

Ah. Sílvrea. The werecat blinked, grinned again, then sat down indian-style right where she was on the sand. She promptly removed the dagger from its sheath and began to toss it absently into the air, where it would spin a few times, then land in her hand again, hilt-first.
"It is an honor to meet you Mau," said the Keahi.
The dagger suddenly stopped it's up-and-down motion as the werecat caught it again. Mau's gaze was still unchanged as she looked at the Rider, that smile still painted onto her face as she spoke, "Is it, really?" she inquired. It was hard to tell what she meant. She may have said it just to contradict what the other was saying, even in some small way. But one would have to admit that the way the werecat was holding the dagger in one hand with a peculiar twinkle in her eyes was perhaps even a little unnerving. Just as suddenly as the seemingly darker mood came over the werecat, it was gone again... just as the dagger was back in its sheath at the woman's side.
Mau's gaze moved to the dragon. Now, here was something she liked. A strange, purr-like "hmmm" left her throat as she heard Sílvrea speak for the first time. Then, she answered right back in the same manner, And I you, Sílvrea, the werecat grinned her toothy grin, "Aye, not everyday I converse with a dragon." Hey, a dragon was almost one of her own! After all, both were magical beings, relatively speaking. And yet, at the same time, they were vastly different.

//OOC| lol, thanks. XD \\
"I suppose not. After all, there are only six in Alagaësia." With a smile, Keahi gazed fondly at her dragon, although she occasionally winced at the sight of the shark being torn apart. Elves did not eat meat, and as she was part elf, neither did she. Keahi knew well about how this was the only life that she would ever get, and that the shark had only one life as well.
A burning desire for knowledge had led her to become the Rider she was now, and the same flame had flared up in her again. Always, Keahi had wondered about werecats, the most mysterious of the creatures in Alagaësia. Aside from dragons, of coarse. Even Riders had trouble understanding them. "Mau... Are werecats immortal? Like dragons?"

OOC| ...are they immortal? I thought so. I think so. I will assume she is. *nods* And if the post makes no sense... sorry. ^^;
IC| Again, she grinned. Again, her sharp teeth glinted faintly in the sunlight as she listened. Ah, yes. Only six. So few dragons. Just as there are only a few werecats. Now Mau looked at Sílvrea as the great silver dragon fed upon the roasted shark.
Unlike Keahi, who would not eat meat, it was the most wonderous, delicious of foods to the werecat. Maubynt smiled as she looked at the Rider again. A question was put forth. Now the werecat grinned, completely amused. She stood up, simply to stand. Not to move around. Not to walk away. Not to come closer. She simply stood. "The clock is always ticking," said Mau mysteriously, her eyes narrowing gently, as if to give the words affect. She didn't answer directly, but continued with, "One day or two. Two years or three. What's a day more, to you or me?"
What was she doing? Impossible to tell what the werecat meant. Perhaps only the werecat knew, or would ever know.

Before Keahi could puzzle out then answer to the werecat's riddle, a red dragon flew overhead. Murtaugh. The dragon came to hover over a patch of ocean as if the rider were looking at something, and a voice came drifting to her faintly. The voice was as if it directed at someone else, it was a mental communication. It was a new voice, and Keahi wouldn't have heard it if it weren't for the fact that she was part elf and the owner's mind was easily opened to her. Arden, swim away, surface out of sight. Don't let them see you.
Once the red dragon, Thorn, had left, Keahi leapt up, hurriedly packed up again and called Sílvrea to her. The rider turned to Mau. "We've got a new Rider out there somewhere. I'm going to pick them up, want to come Mau?"

Her eyes had been rather distant, but suddenly returned to the present. She grinned, her fangs bared completely in that strange, inhuman smile, then stepped forward. If Maubynt heard what had been said, she made no such indication. But the sly flicker of her eyes suggested that perhaps she had.
"We've got a new Rider out there somewhere. I'm going to pick them up, want to come Mau?" asked Keahi.
Mau's brows lifted slightly, her grin unchanging. "A new Rider? Most interesting," said the werecat evenly, her head tilting to the side so that her unkempt, platinum hair fell across her face once more. As usual, she didn't bother moving it, but stared right through it. She made a sound, one not unlike a purr, deep in her throat, then darted forward to stand at Keahi's side with suprising speed... and grace.
Keahi wasn't so bad. Mau almost liked her, even. Maybe it was that half-elf lineage... or maybe because Keahi was a Dragonrider. Whatever it was, Mau felt a little more fond of this half-human than others she'd met...

"I'll take that as a yes then," said Keahi, saddling Sílvrea with the speed of any elf. "Hop on."
Once Rider and werecat were on her back, the dragon pulled free of the ground, soared high on a billowing current of warm air, and soared out over the ocean.
