How long it had been since she flew to Vroengard over these very trees on another dragons' back, cradling her currant mount in her arms as she watched her home speed by. Saphira had been the dragon who carried her on that trip, Eragon had been taking his new ally to her training as a Rider. Now, it was on her own dragons' back that she flew back to Ellesméra. It suddenly occurred to her that this would be the first time she saw her home again in two years.. what would her mother think of her? It hadn't been until rumors about a new Rider fighting for Eragon spread to Du Weldenvarden that her mother even knew that her daughter hadn't died or been kidnapped. The rumors had told of an elf girl who rode of the back a silver, female dragon that answered to the name of "Sílvrea". Orinkona had not heard the name of this new Rider—not one of the rumors had that information—but she knew it anyway. Keahi. The name of her missing daughter. Keahi had always talked of the name she would given her dragon, if she were a Rider. Esvoridor if male.... Sílvrea, if female. "Wether the dragon were silver not!" she would happily exclaim, drawing pictures of herself flying on a dragons' back. And of coarse, after a year or so it's impossible to tell if the Rider were full elf or only half, as was the case with Keahi.
Keahi had gotten her wish of being a Rider, but her mother had never approved much of that idea of her future. She had always been afraid the the human half of her would make her too weak or soft and she would get killed. But two years had passed, and Keahi was still alive and well. Not to mention having the time of her life training to become a Rider. She secretly hoped the training would never end.
At last, Ellesméra came into view along with the Rider's home where she and her dragon would be living. Keahi had had it all fixed with Islanzadi.
Right there, Sílvrea. In the big window. Keahi directed through the mind link.
Have you forgotten that I am not blind, Keahi? answered the dragon in amusement. And then she pulled Keahi's mind into her her own.
Keahi was surprised, she hadn't known the dragon could do this. Suddenly her eyes were seeing strange new colors and with new clarity. And the power of those eyes! Suddenly when Sílvrea looked down, the Rider could have counted individual pebbles lying in the dirt. And they were a mile in the air! Keahi could feel Sílvrea driving her wings up and down with unimaginable power and strength. It seemed as if the dragon could have effortlessly picked up a mountain and and flown around the world and back again. Keahi suddenly realized that she could feel the weight of her own body on what felt like her back. It was like a mere feather. Less, perhaps. The remainder of the flight was like this, five minutes of life spent inside an alien body, to Keahi. when the dragon landed, Keahi returned to her own body and realized just how blind she was. She felt nearsighted for a while, but soon got used to her own eyes again and left the dragon curled up in her own bed. Keahi headed straight for her mothers house, another wave of memories flowing through her mind.
Keahi had been thirteen when Eragon had been living in the same place she now occupied. She had attended the Agaeti Blodhren, although she had not really participated. During his absence, the day Keahi was fourteen was the day his teacher, Oromis, died, and Glaedr with him. Perhaps this had subconsciously helped her to make the choice to fight for Eragon, but she doubted it. It was Murtaugh—That lowlife scum!—who had driven her to oppose him with everything she had. What was wrong with Orrin being king? True, he wasn't very responsible, but at least he hadn't fallen for Galbatorix's lies! And the Riders, if they had bothered to work together, could have handled anything else. Alagaësia hardly needed a king at all, but the people wanted one so why not give them their king, however incompetent, and have the Riders handle any problems? Surely anyone could see the logic in that! And yet Murtaugh insisted on becoming king one way or another. Probably just power-hungry. And the loss of that new Rider to his cause just shows how stupid his forces are. The girl probably liked him.
Keahi shook her head and approached the door. She knocked, but her mother wasn't in. With a shrug, Keahi headed out into the forest, deciding to come back later and try her again. She walked deep into the shadows of the forest, hoping to come across someone else to talk to.
